CHARLIE HARGROVE Birthday is Oct 24, 1942 Sep.26, 2000 58 years old today and old Malvern classmate Charlie Hargrove came by enroute to Malvern. I showed him around town and we had a great visit. We was towing a trailer which he parked in South Fayetteville. -Bill Lamkins (9/26/00) Subject: Greetings from Columbia, MO Hey Bill - I wish I were going to make it to the reunion, but I'm not going to get down to Arkansas until next month. Marilyn teaches for 8 weeks in the fall at M.U. so our travel plans are built around that. We're planning a get together with some old college friends while there, but it won't be the same as the high school folks, many of whom we grew up with. I was sorry to hear about Sammy's death. We weren't close friends but we did run around together a little during high school. He went with me once on my weekly train ride to Little Rock for physical therapy, probably when we were 13 or 14. He told me at our last reunion he still remembered that as the first time he'd ever been anywhere on his own. Thanks for the address. My offer still stands to put you up for a day or two if you're ever wandering around this part of the country. Have a great time at the reunion. -Charlie Hargrove (9/13/05) P.S. To go with all your other pithy little sayings you might want to add my two favorites: - If it happens, it must be possible! - Yesterday is history, Tomorrow a mystery Today is a gift. That's why we call it THE PRESENT! Marilyn and I are coming through there in late Oct. or early Nov. She wants to visit a young lady she knows from the Republic of Georgia who's teaching at the University. We'll probably come through there on our way from Mt. Magazine State Park where some of my old classmates from Ouachita are getting together for a weekend of wine drinking and Republican bashing. We'll be heading for Eureka Springs for a couple of days before going on home. If you're still living in the area I thought I'd try to give you a call and maybe buy you lunch or something while Marilyn visits her friend. Let me hear from you when you get a chance. -Charlie Hargrove (9/30/08) Hi Charlie, Just got your email of Sep 30. Sorry to be tardy answering but I seldom use that eddress anymore. Change your address book for me to Bill@LAMKINS.com I'm still here in Fayetteville and would love to get together. Email me back if I am not too late. -Bill Lamkins (10/21/08) Hey Bill - I missed your email. We stayed overnight in Fayetteville Sunday night and took Marilyn's friend out to dinner. Sorry I missed you. I've changed your email address so maybe the next time you'll get my mail sooner. Hope things are well with you. -Charlie Hargrove (10/28/08) Bill - Glad the recent gathering in Malvern went well. Thanks for keeping everyone informed. The October gathering sounds good. Unfortunately, Marilyn doesn't finish her Fall obligations at the University until the 14th so we won't be able to join you. We're coming down the next week to visit relatives and have another get together with college friends. Another matter. Marilyn is organizing her 50th class reunion. She asked how to find out if a classmate is deceased. I know you have used some social security website for this type of information. How did you do it? Thanks for any help. -Charlie Hargrove (6/27/11) Hi Charlie, Great hearing from you. The SSDI is the Social Security Death Index and the website is free at http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ It's a great source and even more helpful if you have a birthdate and/or death date. The amazing thing about it is the number of similar names. For instance, there are 75 Charles Hargroves listed. Take care and stay well, -Bill Lamkins (6/28/11) Charles Hargrove commented on his August 22, 2011 photo post in Malvern Arkansas Class Of 1960 website. Here are some North Malvern kids on steps of Third Baptist Church, circa 1946. Recognize anyone. Some were in class of 1960, but most were a year or so younger. Woman on left is Mrs. Huffman. Man, center rear is Howard Wright. Woman in black on right is Mrs. Fitzhugh and right rear is my mom, Sue Hargrove. Bill Lamkins Are you in there, Charlie? Wasn't Howard Wright the father of Larry and had the grocery store? Charles Hargrove No, I'm not in there. Howard was Larry's dad, had the grocery store that he converted to laundromat. He was also mayor for several years. (8/22/11) Merry Christmas from Charlie and Marilyn Merry Christmas Everyone! Having grown decidedly more lazy (if that's possible) as I start my 69th year, I'm sending our Christmas Time News via the internet to everyone whose address I have. There's also the "cheapness factor" which is an increasing influence on my decisions as I get older and grumpier! Marilyn and I have had another great year! I recently had some lower back problems, but a little shot of steriods has taken care of most of that for the time being. We'll be headed off for warmer climates again this year. Most of our time will be spent in Florida, but we may come back through North Carolina in February if the weather permits. Let us hear from you when you get a chance. We always enjoy hearing from our family and friends any time of year. Again, Merry Christmas, and may you have a Happy, Healthy New Year! -Charlie Hargrove (12/15/11) Facebook on Thursday, September 27, 2012 4:18 PM Charles Hargrove commented on your photo. DEATH OF CHARLIE HARGROVE ANNOUNCED ON FACEBOOK BY HIS SON ON MAR 29, 2021 Jordon Hargrove This evening just before 6, the world lost a great man. He was fair, kind, served our city for 34 years, and made me the man I am today. He was the best Father any person could ask for, always there. He loved, he laughed, and he was just so much fun to be around. I love you dad. Travis and I will do our best to be the men you wanted us and expected us to be. We will be making arrangements in the next couple of days. I'll make sure to put the information on here for all of his many friends that would like to know but I may not have contact information for. Michael Drain So sorry to hear of Charlie's passing.
