FRANK BRGOCH 1950 - 1984 PILOT BIL SLC DEN Re Jul 5, 1961 BIS Accident: Frank Brgoch was the captain and Ron Rosenhahn (F.O.) was flying the Bird from the left seat. I was Route Qualifying on the jump seat. An 18-wheel dump truck, full of gravel, went under our path on short final, and none of us saw the truck. The jump seat on the DC-3 sat low and didn't give very good visibility, but Frank or Ron didn't see the truck either. The right main gear was sheared off, and the right prop went through the load of gravel. Rosenhahn did a terrific job of landing the old bird on the left main and the right wing tip. At the hearing, our good friend Dick Brice, the principal FAA inspector from Denver, saved either Frank or Rosie from a violation by discovering that, due to the angle of the highway to the runway, the truck was obstructed from our view for approximately ½ mile before we crashed. We exited through the forward cargo pit. -Bob Banta (2005) My name is Shaun M. Brgoch, I am the grandson of late Frank Brgoch pilot. When digging threw some old pictures of my grandfather I found a picture of a wrecked DC-3 I believe he was piloting. I recall him talking about it, but we as a family have no further information. That’s why I am asking the close family of Frontier for help. Here is all I have to go on, picture is again of a DC-3 with Sunliner Mesa Verde painter on the front nose. Also tail # N64424, any help would be great something to pass down to my kids someday. Thank you, -Shaun Brgoch (6/6/06) Hi Shaun, It's great to hear from Frank's grandson. He was a fine man and well thought of by the Frontier family. The DC-3 crash you ask about happened in Pueblo, CO on 8/23/58. Frank was not a pilot on it. He may have been involved in the investigation afterwards. I am attaching a copy of the federal report on the accident. This is the only accident of aircraft 64424 I find in my records. Can you send me a copy of the photo you have? Also, we need a good photo for Frank's memorial webpage and any other info the family would like to add. In case you haven't seen it, it's at http://LAMKINS.tripod.com/Frank_Brgoch.html -Jake Lamkins (6/6/06) F BRGOCH Seniority date of 8/21/50 on the 9/1/81 FL/ALPA seniority list. Frank was #10 on the list. Assume he retired in 1984 when he was 60. -Jake Lamkins (6/18/06) That was a long time ago but I believe Frank Brogoch was the captain and Ron Rosenhahn was the co-pilot. Ron was in the left seat and flying. The truck was loaded high with gravel and approaching the runway about 20 feet from the end at an odd angle so that neither pilot could see it. They didn't know what they hit, they were only about 10 feet above the runway so they continued the landing and stopped safetly on the runway with very little damage. I saw the airplane a couple of days later at a different airport with cables wrapped around the landing gear so it could not retract. I believe it was being ferried to California. -Al Kendell (2/17/07) Frank was the captain in the DC-3 crash in BIS on 7/5/1961. See article posted on webpage. -Jake Lamkins (10/2/09) Hi Shaun, I'm emailing to see if you're still at this eddress. Would love a copy of the wrecked DC-3 you mentioned? Scan and send anything you think would help. Regards, -Jake Lamkins (10/6/09) I just found a pic of the crash. I'm posting it at the webpage and attaching. Is this the same one you had? Jake (10/6/09) April 12, 1972 The Billings Gazette from Billings, Montana Light plane is flipped MISSOULA (AP) - A gusty wind and the propwash from a Frontier Airlines aircraft combined to flip a light plane at the Missoula airport, Robert Bricker, airport manager, said Tuesday. The Cessna 150 owned by Johnson Flying Service was about 30 yards behind the Frontier aircraft when it was overturned. Brickcr said the pilot of the Frontier plane, Frank Brgoch, told him that he did not apply any more power than was necessary to taxi the aircraft against a 23 to 30 mile per hour wind. -https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/412216314/ (1/2/21) F BRGOCH SLC co-pilot Per the Nov 1955 employees roster. ------------------------------- F BRGOCH BIL reserve captain DOB 12/16/24 DOH 3/20/50 Per the Feb 1960 employees roster. ------------------------------- F BRGOCH Emp# 01076 Address in Bountiful, UT SLC captain DOB 12/16/24 DOH 3/20/50 Per the Dec 1970 employees roster. ------------------------------- F BRGOCH emp# 01076 DEN Address in Bountiful, UT Per the Nov 1984 employees roster. -Jake Lamkins (1/5/21) FLacebook Frontier Memorial Webpage updated FRANK BRGOCH 1950 - 1984 PILOT BIL SLC DEN http://LAMKINS.tripod.com/Frank_Brgoch.html Totally overhauled his website and added 10 items. (1/7/21) This is the airplane Frank Brgoch flew In WWII - his all-time favorite aircraft! https://www.warhistoryonline.com/war-articles/a-20-havoc.html Later Max Gardner was killed flying N-67921 when his heart failed Oct 8, 1988. Max was in a 3 ship flight at San Benito, TX that included his son! Max was 70. At the time I thought 70 was really old! Now, that’s just a kid! -Billy Walker (7/29/21) I remember Frank really well - he came into Jackson a lot - he was one hell of a pilot. He came in one time and there were a bunch of sage chickens on the end of runway 18 and he went around and landed on runway 36 and taxied down to where the sage chickens were and reversed the props and he said one old rooster just stood his ground till the prop wash blew him off. Oh what memories I have of working in Jackson over the years. -Ken Wientjes (7/31/21)
