JAMES STEWART MHS CLASS 1960 BROTHER OF CONNIE STEWART Could this be our James Stewart? https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/malvern-online/name/james-stewart-obituary?id=15256524 -Allan Cupp (2/22/22) Hi Allan, It might be our James. I'll send it out and maybe we can get a confirmation. -Bill Lamkins (2/22/22) Posted 2/22/22 at Facebook and MHS1960EList MHS 1960: Another classmate possibly gone Dear Classmates, Allan Cupp sent this obituary for James Stewart Can anyone verify that he is the James Stewart from our class of 1960. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/malvern-online/name/james-stewart-obituary?id=15256524 Our James Stewart repeated a few years of classes so the age fits. I've attached his photo from our 1960 yearbook. -Bill Lamkins (2/22/22) Windell Jones Favors him a lot. Bill Lamkins It would help if the obit pic was larger. Clark Dougherty Has to be the 1960 MHS grad. Obit indicates he was married to Bobbie Jo Jackson - she was in my class - and I recall her getting married less than a year after we graduated in '62. Windell Jones Wasn't there a Connie Stewart in that class? Gail West I remember him as Connie, not James. Windell Jones That's what I was thinking. Martha Chadwick Lindvall Yes, I believe he is. (2/22/22) Bill Lamkins Both Connie and James are shown in the 1960 yearbook senior class. They are brothers and Connie passed away Jun 10, 2011. Thanks for the comments because they led to confirmation that he is our James Stewart. Connie's obituary which I just checked mentions James in Nixa, MO as a survivor. http://Malvern1960.tripod.com/Connie_Stewart.html MHS1960EList MHS 1960: James Stewart Dear Classmates, Comments on our Facebook page led me to check classmate Connie Stewart's obituary at http://Malvern1960.tripod.com/Connie_Stewart.html which confirms that his brother was James Stewart in Nixa, MO. So we can add James to our list of lost classmates. Thanks again to Allan Cupp for letting me know. -Bill Lamkins (2/22/22) Gail West Thank you, Bill. I knew Connie, but not James. Did not know at the time that Connie had a brother. Conrad Lawson Gail and Bill, I believe James was at one point in the class of '59, but wound up graduating in 1960. His nickname was "Nub" and he was pretty good pitcher in baseball for that team from Central. Bob Leming or Don Hill would have known him pretty well, I think. He came out for football one year, and could punt the ball a mile. But he didn't like practice, and so quit after a few days. I believe Connie, whose nickname was "Coon" as I recall, was a year or so younger. That's the way I remember them, but somebody please correct me if that's wrong. If it helps, as I remember, Nub had dark hair, almost black, and Coon's hair was a few shades lighter, sort of a dark blonde. John Lipe You got the nick names right and James had a lot of natural athletic talent. Conrad Lawson Thanks, John. And you're right, James was a hoss! A funny little story about Nub, rest his soul. We were playing baseball one Sunday afternoon down at Central. Nub was pitching for the Central team, and I was pitching for a scrub team of Malvern boys. Before the game started, at about 2 pm, I guess, the umpire came out to the pitching mound to talk to us, and called out the two adults that were our casual "managers." He said, "now are you boys wanting to play nine innings, or seven?" Nub quickly said, "Well, I don't care how many we play, but Roy Rogers comes on at 4;30, and I'm gonna be home to watch it." Bill Lamkins Connie was 21 months younger than James per the obituaries. (2/24/22) MHS1960 Facebook & MHS1960 E-List James Stewart's memorial webpage is posted at our class website: https://Malvern1960.tripod.com/Memorial.html He is the 84th member of our class we have lost.
